What is a Stick & Stitch Pattern?

A Stick & Stitch Pattern is essentially a wash away sticker that guides your embroidery. After you’ve embroidered your pattern the sticker will wash away for a beautiful final project!

How to Embroider Using a Stick & Stitch Pattern

Step 1: Peel off the paper backing and apply the Stick & Stitch pattern to your fabric or article of clothing. I love using Stick & Stitch on denim, canvas pouches or bags, and felt for patches.

Step 2: Embroider your design as you normally would. You can choose to use an embroidery hoop or not, and use any stitches and colors you desire.

Tip: use less than 6 strands of embroidery floss for small details.

Step 3: Once you have embroidered your full design, wash your project under warm running water. More powerful running water can work better, so I will sometimes wash under the tub faucet instead of the sink.

Tip: You may notice that your project still feels sticky in places where you have filled in an entire area with a stitch, such as satin stitch. If you are having trouble washing off the full sticker, let your design soak or throw it in the washing machine (if your fabric/garment is washable).

Step 4: Let dry completely and your project is complete.

Step 5: Post your project on Instagram and tag me @jessiekatzgreenberg so I can “ooo” and “ahh” over what you made!

Stitch Ideas For My “Witch Craft” Stick & Stitch Pattern

The beauty of Stick & Stitch patterns is that you can use any colors and stitches that you’d like! That being said, I know that it can be nice to have a little guidance. While any of your favorite outline stitches will work great on this pattern, here are a few images with stitches that I’ve used.

Ideas For Where You Can Use a Stick & Stitch Pattern

  • Make a patch by embroidering onto felt.

  • Keep your project in the embroidery hoop for wall art or an ornament.

  • Embroider onto a canvas pouch or tote bag. (Tip: When I embroider on small canvas pouches I prefer not to use an embroidery hoop.)

  • Embroider onto a baseball cap.

  • Embroider onto the pocket of a pair of jeans or a denim jacket.

  • Embroider onto canvas shoes.
